We want a future where life is valued, where children are seen as a blessing and essential to the future.
We want a future where children are no longer seen as a burden or something to be limited for the sake of our own comfort.
We want a future where individuals choosing to build large families can do so without facing judgment, disapproval, or interrogation about their choice to expand their family size.
Should we question procreation?
The anti-natalist movement says “People do not stop to question having children before opting to procreate”, but is this true? With birth rates at historic lows, the truth is quite the opposite. People think too much about having children – many base their decision on how it will affect their own comfort and prosperity: money, time and future career growth..
Yes, there is suffering in this world.
But there is also beauty.
Beauty in human beings and in what we create. In many cases those who suffer poverty, hunger, sickness and pain often go on to live full lives and even contribute greatly to mankind. Think Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, Ben Carson, Rosa Parks, and Beethoven.
It takes people to help people
Claims that reducing population will allow us to focus more on those alive now are outright false. With fewer children, who will help take care of an aging population? As workers retire, who will take their place to work producing food and other goods that are necessary for life? Who will run the power plants and build cars? The answer is: no one. Our standard of living will go down, not up.
Having children is never selfish
Having children is one of the least selfish things a human can do. You are inviting another person into this world which will rely on you to care for them, feed them, teach them, and raise them into productive members of society. Children bring joy to our lives, teach us to be better people and are inherently thankful to be alive.
Having children is natural and good
Why do humans have reproductive organs if we were not meant to procreate? Just like every other creature on this earth which reproduces at will, and frankly as much as possible, we should as well. Think of all the scientific breakthroughs that could result in good that will never be made as a result of anti-natalist views.
Does having children make you happier? You bet it does.
Anti-natalists like to parade few studies that appear to show childlessness doesn’t result in any less happiness than having children, however those cherry picked studies are the exception by far. Most studies will show that children not only bring us happiness, but also purpose in life that transcends everything we considered “important” before having children.
Childbirth trauma it should be taken seriously, but it shouldn’t stop you from having more kids
There are ways to treat it through counseling and the risk of getting it can be lessened with good pre-birth education. Learning what to expect, as well as what your options and rights are as an expecting mother can go a long way to preventing many sources of childbirth trauma.
